Haloween

"Halloween"
DVD cover

Colour:
  • The gender is represented through this image by colour. We think this is more focused at men than women, this is because the main colours are red, black, orange and white. This creates a darkened and gloomy feel, which is usually symobolised with male associated films.
  • The colour represents a horror film, and shows danger, because anger and blood is associated with the colour red and black is a symbol of death.
  • The mood creates a disturbing and uncomfortable feeling, this is because the colours are bold and simple which makes the main image stand out against the plain black background.
  • The orange and red colours identifies that the film is incorporated with halloween.
Composition:
  • The layout shows a main image of a knife and pumpkin mask/claw impling that the film is going to be about horror and halloween. The title is almost there as like a backup, as we already know the film is going to be about halloween just from looking at the image. The less important writing is placed to the side of the picture or below it.
  • The image of the pumpkin and knife doesn't go into too much depth, it is the main focus as it is placed in the middle, portrait and medium sized in comparison to the whole picture.
  • The three objects in relation to eachother (hand, knife and pumpkin) overlap, this makes it seem as if the pumpkin is a real life person going to stab someone.
Mise-en-scene:
  • The pumpkin is seen as a costume as we think it either looks like a claw or a mask. This suggest that there is a mysterious character in the film who does not reveal their identity as they are wearing this costume.
  • The image makes us feel that the location is scary and dark/gloomy as we associated haloween with grave yards and night time.
  • The lighting seems as though the a light is shining through the pumpkin, this stands out because the background is black.
